Ride at your own risk.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch covering the entire San Francisco Bay Area, including Sonoma County, from Saturday morning , September 3, 2022, through Monday evening, September 5, 2022. Temperatures in Sonoma County are forecast to peak over 100° on Saturday afternoon. Morning temperatures expected to be in the 80’s. While we can not control the weather, individuals can decide how to ensure their best day.

Unless you are prepared, cycling in excessive heat can be dangerous and life threatening. You are not obligated to ride. If you do choose to ride, please safely consider the following . . .

  • Downgrading your route distance, just let us know at check-in.

  • Leave earlier in the morning, when it’s cooler. The BBQ afterparty starts at noon.

  • If you are not accustomed to hot weather cycling, you can skip the ride and join for the BBQ afterparty. We’ll also have plenty of ice cold water/beverages, tents for shade, cold beer and ice cream, too. The music and food service start at noon.

  • Hydrate with extra water a day or two prior to cycling (avoid caffeinated and sugary drinks). Before and during the ride, add electrolytes (Nuun, GU drink tabs, Gatorade or similar brands of electrolytes) to your water.

  • Apply strong SPF sun screen before cycling and reapply every 2 - 3 hours.

  • Some riders find that a light base layer helps wick away sweat, keeping them cooler.

  • Newly asphalted roads can become sticky with excessive heat. Be mindful of road conditions and cycle cautiously in these areas.

  • Call 911 if you or another rider are experiencing heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can be fatal.

  • Be mindful of other heat related illnesses

  • Stay aware of changing conditions by viewing the National Weather Service page.

Heat Preparations | What to expect from Tour de Fuzz

Out of care, concern and an abundance of caution for our wonderful riders and to provide the best experience possible, we are trucking in thousand of gallons of water, and have extra EMTs on stand by, notified local fire departments and made provision for extra shade at the afterparty. While we do NOT issue refunds for hot days (or defer entry fees to next year), participants are invited to choose an earlier (cooler) departure time, shorten their route and/or to just join us for the afterparty, which starts at noon. Whatever your choice, you’ve already made our day.

Thank you. Tour de Fuzz is a charity ride benefiting the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, and is not a race. You’ve already made a difference by supporting our 40+ chaplains who serve those facing tragedy and loss in our community, 24/7/365, with the help of your event donation. Please carefully consider your safety first. We are so grateful to our Fuzzie family of supporters.
